DD, E, DDD and F: Bra Cup Sizes Compared Across UK, US, EU and India

Key Takeaways
- UK and US cup letters match from A up to DD. After DD they split.
- After DD, UK sizing goes E, F, FF, G. US sizing usually goes DDD, then G, H and I.
- A UK E and a US DDD are the same cup. Both describe a six-inch gap between bust and underbust.
- EU sizing has no DD. An EU E is the same as a UK or US DD, and an EU F is the same as a UK E.
- The safest way to compare is the gap in inches: DD is five, the next cup is six, the one after is seven.
- Indian brands use familiar band numbers but label cups above D in different ways, so always read the brand's own chart.
Why cup letters stop matching after D
Up to D, almost everyone agrees. An A cup is about a one-inch difference between your bust and your underbust, B is two, C is three and D is four. The next step, a five-inch gap, is called DD in both UK and US sizing.
After that, each system went its own way. UK brands moved to single letters again: E, F, then doubled letters like FF and GG. US brands kept adding Ds, so the six-inch cup became DDD. Some US brands then jump to G, while others print DDD/F on the label. EU sizing never used DD at all, so its letters run one step behind from the five-inch cup onwards.
The result is that the same cup can carry three different letters depending on where the bra was made. Your body is the same in all three. Only the label changes.
Cup size conversion chart
The chart below lines up each system by the gap between your bust and underbust. Find your gap on the left and read across.
| Bust minus underbust | UK | US | EU |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 in (2.5 cm) | A | A | A |
| 2 in (5 cm) | B | B | B |
| 3 in (7.5 cm) | C | C | C |
| 4 in (10 cm) | D | D | D |
| 5 in (12.5 cm) | DD | DD (some brands: DD/E) | E |
| 6 in (15 cm) | E | DDD (some brands: DDD/F) | F |
| 7 in (17.5 cm) | F | G (some brands: DDDD) | G |
| 8 in (20 cm) | FF | H | H |
EU cups step up by 2 cm each while UK and US cups step by an inch, which is about 2.5 cm. The two drift apart slowly at larger cups, so treat EU conversions above E as close rather than exact.
Is E the same as DD?
It depends on which system the E comes from. In UK sizing, E comes straight after DD and is one cup bigger. In EU sizing there is no DD, so the E is the five-inch cup, the same as a UK or US DD. And some US brands print DD/E on the same label because they treat the two as one cup.
So a woman who wears a UK 34DD could buy a 75E from a European brand and get the same cup. If she buys a UK 34E, she would be one cup up. Our DD cup size guide covers the five-inch cup in full.
Is DDD the same as E?
Yes, when you compare a US DDD with a UK E. Both describe a six-inch gap between bust and underbust. A US 34DDD and a UK 34E are the same bra size. In EU sizing that same cup is an F, so a 34DDD is usually a 75F.
Our DDD cup size guide explains the six-inch cup, including how it maps to Krvvy sizes.
Is DDD the same as F?
Sometimes, and this is the pair that causes the most confusion. Some US brands label their six-inch cup DDD/F, treating the two as the same. In that case a DDD and an F from the same brand are identical.
A UK F is different. It is a seven-inch cup, one step bigger than a US DDD. So if you wear a US DDD and buy an F from a UK brand, the cup will be one size too big. If you see an F on a label, check which system the brand uses before you order.
What is bigger than a DD?
The next cup after DD is a six-inch gap. UK brands call it E, US brands call it DDD and EU brands call it F. After that come UK F, US G and EU G at seven inches.
DD is not where cup sizes stop. Plenty of brands make cups well beyond it. What changes is that the letters stop being reliable across brands, so the inches become more useful than the label.
DDD vs G
A US G is the cup after DDD in brands that skip F, so it is one step bigger. A UK G is a nine-inch cup, three steps bigger than a US DDD. If you are comparing a DDD with a G, the brand's country tells you which of those two meanings applies.
How bands convert between systems
Band sizes are simpler. UK, US and Indian brands use inches, so a 34 band is a 34 band in all three. EU brands use centimetres, so a 34 becomes a 75, a 36 becomes an 80 and a 32 becomes a 70. French sizing adds 15 to the EU band, so a 34 there is a 90.
Put the two together and a UK 34E is a US 34DDD, an EU 75F and a French 90F. If a label shows a two-digit band like 75 or 80, it is almost certainly EU sizing, and the cup letter will be one step behind UK letters from DD onwards.
How Indian brands label sizes above D
Most Indian brands use the same band numbers as UK and US sizing and the same A to D cups. Above D there is no single rule. Some use UK-style E and F, some use DD and DDD, and some sell fuller cups in letter sizes such as XL and 2X. Zivame, Clovia, Enamor and PrettySecrets each publish their own size charts, and the same letter can mean slightly different things from one to the next.
The practical answer is to shop by measurement rather than by letter. Measure your underbust and bust, work out the gap in inches, then find that gap on the chart of the brand you are buying from. That works whatever letter the brand prints.
How to measure for cups above D
Wear an unpadded bra or no bra. Stand straight and wrap a soft tape snugly around your ribcage just under your breasts for your underbust. Then wrap it loosely around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level all the way round.
At fuller cups it helps to take a second bust reading while leaning forward at the waist, with the tape loose. If that figure is noticeably bigger than the standing one, a deeper cup may suit you better than the standing number suggests. Our step-by-step guide to measuring your bra size covers each step.
Take the underbust away from the bust, then use the chart above. Five inches is a DD in every system except EU, where it is an E. Six inches is a UK E, a US DDD and an EU F.
Where Krvvy sizes fit in
Krvvy bras are sold in letter sizes rather than band and cup, from M to 4X in most styles. Each size on our bra size chart covers a range of underbust and bust measurements.
Those ranges suit five-inch and six-inch gaps best, so a DD or a DDD on the matching band falls inside one Krvvy size. A 34DD and a 34DDD are both an XL. A seven-inch cup, such as a UK 34F, reads XL on the band and 2X on the bust, so from F upwards your two measurements may land in different Krvvy sizes. When that happens, use Find My Size.
For everyday support at fuller cups, the Trueform Support Bra was designed for C to F cups.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is E the same as DD?
It depends on the system. An EU E is the same as a UK or US DD, and some US brands label the same cup DD/E. A UK E is one cup bigger than a DD. Check whether the brand uses UK or EU sizing before you compare.
Is DDD the same as E?
Yes, across systems. A US DDD and a UK E are the same cup, both describing a six-inch gap between bust and underbust. In EU sizing that cup is an F.
Is DDD the same as F?
Sometimes. Some US brands sell their six-inch cup as DDD/F, so the two match within that brand. A UK F is a seven-inch cup, which is one step bigger than a US DDD.
What cup size comes after DD?
The six-inch cup comes after DD. UK brands call it E, US brands call it DDD and EU brands call it F. After that comes a seven-inch cup: UK F, US G and EU G.
What is the US equivalent of a UK E?
A UK E is a US DDD. Some US brands also label that cup DDD/F. A UK 34E and a US 34DDD are the same size.
Can an E cup be a DD?
Yes, if it is an EU E. EU sizing does not use DD, so its E is the five-inch cup that UK and US brands call DD. A UK E is one cup bigger than a DD.
Is a DDD the same as a G cup?
No. A US G is one cup bigger than a US DDD in brands that skip F. A UK G is three cups bigger than a US DDD.
